The Ministry of Defence would like to express its sincere thanks to all front-line and essential workers during these challenging and unprecedented times which have been brought about by the spread of the Covid-19 global health pandemic. We salute your ongoing and unwavering efforts to bring safety, security and care to Gambia and the Gambian people.
We also acknowledge the role of the Gambian Armed Forces in contributing to these essential services and, like their colleagues, making efforts to act beyond the normal call to provide critical infrastructure, logistics and planning support to communities across the country. Members of the armed forces act in this role in the context of doctrinal provisions which enable military support to the civilian authorities during times of crisis. The defence institution is grateful for the direction taken by this government under the leadership of His Excellency President Adama Barrow to leverage its newly adopted Security Sector Reform strategy to facilitate closer cooperation with other security-relevant ministries to respond to the Covid emergency and other similar complex challenges, the impacts of which the country must be protected from in the future.
We wish all fellow Gambians, their families and their communities warmest holiday wishes. Although this important occasion will be celebrated and observed in a slightly different way this year, it remains one of many important occasions which characterizes the strength and unity of our country. During this holiday period, the Ministry of Defence encourages all of its personnel, fellow Gambians and all those resident in The Gambia to continue wearing face masks and observe the current protocols which the Government has instituted in order to ‘flatten the curve’ and protect the health and well-being of our society. Thank you, once again, for your ongoing support and service to this country. Eid Mubarak 🙏❤️.
